Brightmail Block Removal – This link was the biggest pain in the @$$ to find. For any of you that have ever had your mail blocked because your ip was listed with as a “insert generic reason here” from Symantec or Brightmail here is where you go to check and submit a removal request http://ipremoval.sms.symantec.com.

What pisses me off is that we pay for and run many Brightmail appliances and Symantec seems to provide close to zero resources that are easily accessible for the public.
Symantec please take a lesson from IronPort if you are being blocked based on your SenderBase reputation you just go to SenderBase.org and the lookups and tools you need are right there.

Don’t get me wrong I love my mail security appliances and for the price they are hard to beat but seriously if you are going to run a block list please make it easy for people to find out if they are listed and the steps they need to take to initiate the removal process.

So, your boss is getting all pissed off because she/he is trying forward some lame joke to a golf buddy and they get a bounce message saying that their message was blocked by Ironport. Immediately they get defensive because who is this Ironport and how dare they block your boss’ message!

We all know the reason your server is being blocked probably has to do with your boss using the “reply to all” function and just spammed stupid comments to the 500 other users on said lame email (because God forbid anyone should ever use the bcc for this crap). So 250 of those people listed on the email flagged it as junk or spam.

Since you can’t just up and shake your boss like a british nanny you do the next best thing. SenderBase is the place to check if you are having issues with your email being blocked by IronPort / Cisco devices and the url is http://www.senderbase.org.

It is important to understand that Senderbase is not a block list but is used for reputation checks. Plug in your IP and check your reputation then follow the recommendations to improve your rep which will help with your mail deliverability.
